Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR), a day to memorialize those lost to anti-trans violence. Each year during TDOR, communities come together to mourn their loved ones by reading a list of names of those whose lives were taken, from their communities and communities around the world. 

Often the list of names is overwhelmingly populated by people from Latinoamerica. Gender bias and queerphobia are often perpetuated by our culture’s emphasis on gender and heteronormativity, and undoubtedly contribute to violence against trans and non-binary people. In our own small way, we hope Call me Latine will help shed light on this issue and further the conversation. This is our commitment to those we remember, and those who are still with us. 

While we mourn those lost on Transgender Day of Remembrance, we encourage you to to celebrate and support trans people in your community, today and every day. Lift up the voices of trans and non-binary Latines, support them in leadership roles, and support your local trans community as much as possible.
